The scope of the study was to design a steel elbow for above ground installation that can bear the thrust load caused by the flow of 1,7 m3/s and a head of 260m. The elbow is 30o and will be the last part of the pentock assembly.
In order to reduce the downtime of the Hydro Plant operation, the decision was to avoid the construction of concrete thrust block for this elbow. The steel elbow was reinforced the FEA results shown that it will be capable to bear the thrust load.
